About Me
Aliya Byrd
I'm Aliya, a senior Computer Science major at Spelman College with a passion for designing accessible, user-centered digital experiences. My work bridges design and technology, with a focus on equity, inclusivity, and intentional storytelling. I enjoy turning complex problems into thoughtful solutions through research, prototyping, and clean visual design. Whether I'm building a website that highlights community impact or celebrating underrepresented voices in tech, I strive to create work that’s both meaningful and intuitive.
At Spelman, I’ve been deeply involved in leadership and community-building. I’m the founder of Take Lead, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering Black girls through education and mentorship. I’ve served as president of Girls Who Code since my sophomore year, where I launched a mentorship program that connects college students with younger girls in tech. I’ve also served on both the Junior and Senior Class Councils, held the role of Telecommunications Chair for NSBE, and helped bring the Mentoring Corps initiative to campus.
Professionally, I’ve grown through hands-on experience and immersive programs. I was a Software Engineering Intern at Adobe in the Seattle office, where I contributed to the After Effects team and strengthened my technical and collaborative skills. I’m also a proud alum of Google Tech Exchange, Adobe x HBCU 2020, and Microsoft Tech Resilience, all of which expanded my exposure to the tech industry while affirming my commitment to building thoughtful, inclusive products.
